Landfill Liner System Construction Description
When a liner system is constructed in today’s modern landfill, protection of the environment is #1 on the list. The system being constructed at the Warren County Landfill consists of a number of major components to ensure that the environment is protected today and well into the future.
These components are:
1) Land clearing and vegetation removal
2) Installation of the sub-grade stabilization layer and piping
3) Installation of the secondary liner system and piping
4) Installation of the primary liner system and piping
5) Installation of the primary drainage layer
During the installation of all of the above components, numerous on-site tests are performed by the Installer, our own Quality Control and Quality Assurance Inspectors, in addition to sending random samples of the liner systems to “2 outside independent laboratories” to ensure that the systems being installed are at or exceed the minimum requirements of today’s modern landfill.
The construction of Cell-5 which is 8.5 acres began in early July 2011 and is expected to take between 6 to 12 months to complete. As we move through the process of the installation of the liner system components, we will begin posting pictures of the construction process to help everyone understand how a modern landfill is constructed with the protection of the environment at the forefront.
Finally, building a modern landfill today is “NOT” inexpensive. The cost for the construction of Cell-5 is expected to be at “$600,000 per acre” to build. But when it is the environment that is being protected, not only for us today, but for our children and grandchildren in the future, “NO PRICE IS TOO HIGH”.
We hope you enjoy the photos.
